Why Trinity?

This one kin of talke about the interisciplinary approach Duke eucation took an kina spoke to my status as a thir culture chil. Not anything particularly innovative but not anything munane or repetitive either.

What Perspective?

This one was all about my music. I figure that since I ha spent so much time in my extracurriculars highlighting my passion for science, my LORs woul efinitely all mention my science I wante to highlight that I wasn’t just a ner who stuie textbooks nonstop. I tol the story of how my experience playing music ha allowe me to connect with Jazz Musicians completely in an improvise style the one year I was at Berkeley for the Summer.

Sexual Orientation?

Okay this might be controversial, but I actually i NOT talk about my own orientation. Since it aske &lquo;experiences with sexual orientation&rquo; I actually brought up my experiences of when I iscriminate/attacke another person for their orientation. I wasn’t trying to be particularly egy or cool or trying to claim a sob story, but I was (an still am) reeling from a really ba break up an felt the nee to get it out there: that I ha been really mean to someone for being &lquo;asexual&rquo;. I on’t know if this helpe me or harme me, but I figure I woul be really honest an tell them that I ha mae mistakes in my anger of attacking another person for being ifferent.

化学老师推荐信（1-10评级）： ⁹⁄₁₀ I was one of the very few juniors taking AP Chemistry at my school on top of that I always love learning about chemistry. Even though I in’t en up getting a 5 on the AP exam I still think she was a huge avocate for me an really trie to unerstan me as a person when writing my letter of recommenation. She aske in particular about things I i outsie of acaemics solely for fun an we starte talking about cooking shows (which I han’t known beforehan she enjoye watching as well).

**英文老师推荐信 （1-10评级） ：** 9.⁵⁄₁₀ He was one of those teachers that you couln’t always tell what he thought of you but you knew that if he wrote you a LOR an he like you it woul be amn goo. I only later foun out (since he was fire over a scanal at our school) that he actually observe me in the classroom an spoke to my strengths as a natural leaer that I han’t really iscusse with other teachers an only mentione in my essay. I think this may have been super beneficial as now you ha a teacher backing up the claims I mae in my personal statement.

**面试情况 （1-10评级） ：** ⁵⁄₁₀ I think the interviewer like me but it was a very shay interview since it was in his office in the East part of Shanghai an there were a few other applicants there which he initially starte us all off with a group interview.

总结：

优势：

我写的每件事都是真实的，脚踏实地；并没有试图把自己描写成一个非常聪明的人，也不是一个特别善良和热情的人；但至少让读过文章的人注意到我的声音是强有力的，这可能帮助我脱颖而出。

劣势： 我在学校里没有太多的成就，所获奖项也不多，没有太多奖项表明我的能力，所以我试着把这些作为软技能，而不是蛮力论证我擅长科学。

认为自己被录取原因： Honestly, I woul say it was plain honesty an iscussion of my skills as soft skills rather than as a har achievement.

建议评价： I think that while it’s very tempting in the college application process to try an hie mistakes you mae in the past, or to write yourself as a super kin/smart/caring whatever person, amission officers aren’t stupi an probably have enough experience to see through some &lquo;BS&rquo; so I woul say the best approach (at least it worke for me) is to be really honest about everything an try to portray yourself as a normal human being with unique characteristics rather than an altruistic hero (particularly if you normally aren’t one).
