The M.A. program in Communication an New Meia at McMaster University offers the opportunity for stuents to gain experience in inepenent communication stuies research an/or multimeia art an esign at the grauate level, while eveloping avance knowlege in communication theories an methoologies, an cultivating their interest in one or more subspecialties in this interisciplinary program (such as meia stuies, iscourse analysis, performance stuies, auio an vieo art, auience stuies, computer-meiate methoologies). Stuents entering the program from unergrauate Communication Stuies an/or Multimeia programs will all share a backgroun in critical an creative approaches to conventional an new meia, but they will also bring a spectrum of interests, reflecting the iversity of these fiels, that will contribute to a vibrant interchange of ieas. This program will cultivate their intellectual evelopment through coursework, a major research project, an extracurricular activities. The program prepares stuents for both further grauate eucation in the areas of communication, meia an multimeia stuy, an for employment in a range of fiels such as meia prouction, meia aministration, communication policy, organizational communication, an the arts.

This course provies an overview of research methoology relevant to the stuy of human communication. Topics inclue formulation of a research problem an research questions, appropriate methos of ata gathering (questionnaires, focus groups, interviewing, ethnography, igitalize ocument collection), an ata analysis (quantitative an qualitative approaches).

This course provies a broa overview of the methos an processes of making new meia works in a collaborative stuio setting. Stuents will evelop or expan competency in a meium of their choice, realizing a project through the following research-creation stages: conceptualization, planning, analysis of source materials, composition, revision, enhancement, presentation/exhibition, an ocumentation/archiving.
