


The MA in Eucational Transformation requires 30 creit hours over four semesters. During the fall an spring semesters, stuents split their time between classes an their resiency. Our two summer semesters – require for both Avocacy & Policy an Learning & Teaching – bring stuents together across concentrations to explore the intersection between life insie the classroom an the external political forces which shape an constrict that environment.
Eucation & Social Justice. This course will apply a systems thinking approach to the exploration of the relationship between eucation an social justice in a emocratic society. In this course, stuents will examine historical an contemporary research an theoretical frameworks for eucation as a tool for aressing social inequality an structures of power as they relate to the purpose of eucation, access to eucational opportunity, an isparities in outcomes. Examining the frame of eucation as a public goo, particular attention will be pai to the eucation of iverse stuent populations an the potential of eucation to aress both iniviual an societal nees. As a result of the course, stuents will begin to situate themselves within the intersection of eucation an social justice while articulating a professional ientity an purpose.
Culturally Relevant Approaches in Eucation. In this course, stuents will examine, learn, an apply research an theory about culturally relevant practices in eucation. Focusing on an asset-base stance towar working with stuents, families, communities, an colleagues, stuents will learn strategies that recognize an value K-12 stuents’ ientity an culture in orer to cultivate a classroom community that supports stuent autonomy, motivation, self-regulation, an achievement an that facilitates effective, respectful partnerships with families an community members.
Avocating for Learners & Learning. This course serves as the capstone experience for the MAET program. In this course, stuents will synthesize their learning experiences throughout the program an evelop the skills an ispositions neee to evelop as teacher leaers an avocates. Stuents will examine the role of teachers in eucation avocacy efforts an evelop a professional ientity as it relates to avocacy an leaership. Using a project-base learning format, stuents will work collaboratively in cross-track groups to aress inequity in eucation from a systems-thinking perspective.
