Questions

1. Why not continue your stuies in China?

Because my career goals are to become a senior executive in a 5-star hotel within 5 years an set up my own hotel within 10 years. In orer to achieve these goals, I nee avance an professional knowlege in Hospitality Management. The US can provie the best opportunity for me to get what I nee.
You know, there is still a gap between Chinese eucational level an the American’s. The US has the best eucational recourses an moels in the worl, an the American eucation combines practical experience with classroom theory while the Chinese eucation focuses more on theory.
Moreover, hospitality inustry is highly evelope in America. So I can learn the latest information about hospitality management to enrich my knowlege.

2. How long will you stuy in USA?

My I-20 form says the normal length of my program lasts 3 years but the school official tol me that most stuents complete within 2 years of full-time stuy. So I will work har to finish my stuies within 2 years.

3. What will you o in the US?

I will stuy Hospitality Management for Master’s Degree at Floria International University.

4. Why o you choose this major?

I choose this major because of my interest an career prospect.
To be specific, I have always love living in a nice hotel an enjoye that graceful an cozy environment. My cousin is also an executive general manager in a resort, when I was a Junior I spent some of my vacations in the resort where she was working, since then I evelope more interest in hotels an I mae up my min to eal with hotel work in the future. I also foun out that China is very short of talente people in star hotels, especially those with goo foreign language skills an foreign eucational backgrouns. I can speak 2 foreign languages, so with the avance eucation in the US an my knowlege in Chinese culture, I will gain the upper han in the Chinese hotel market.

5. Why o you choose this University? (根据自己学校的情况来改)

I choose this University because of several reasons.
A. FIU has been ranke among the top 100 public universities in the U.S. An its hospitality an tourism program is ranke sixth.
B. FIU offers internship that utilizes the hotels, resorts, restaurants, clubs an so on as practice labs for stuents.
C. FIU has excellent professors, such as Gregory Bohan who grauate from Cornell University an Sanro Formica who has publishe over fifty articles in international acaemic journals.
D. FIU’s average costs are reasonable, an it’s locate in a city that has a pleasant climate similar to my hometown. This will better help me ajust to my school life abroa.

6. What i you stuy before? (本科专业问题)

--- I stuie German.
--- Why i you choose this major?
--- I chose this major because my English teacher recommene me. My English was very goo in my high school, so my English teacher thought that I coul use my avantage to learn another language. German is kin of similiar with English an Xi'an International Stuies University is also famous for teaching German. So I chose to stuy German there.
--- Di you like this major?
--- Well, it's a goo major, but I'm interestein Hospitality Management more since I have mae up my min to eal with hotel work in the future.

7. Why o you change your major?

Before I entere the University, I in’t have a very clear an etaile career plan. When I was a Junior, I spent some of my vacations in the resort where my cousin was working as an executive general manager. Since then I evelope more interests in hotels an I mae up my min to eal with hotel work in the future. My cousin also tol me that China is very short of talente people in star hotels, especially those with goo foreign language skills an foreign eucational backgrouns. I can speak 2 foreign languages, so with the avance eucation in the US an my knowlege in Chinese culture, I will gain the upper han in the Chinese hotel market.

Basically speaking, China is the most suitable place for me to achieve my goals. On one han, I can get the strongest relationship an money support in China since my parents an most of my friens live here. On the other han, China is more suitable to start business because of its huge labor market, lower investment costs an the government support.
As far as I know, starting a business nees abunant knowlege, experiences, capital an social network. I can get such knowlege from my stuies in the US. Then I will gather practical experiences by working in China’s hotel inustry for years, at the same time I will enlarge my social network here. When I have collecte sufficient money an the time is right, I will be able to set up my own hotel.

9. I on’t believe that you will come back. How can you prove that to me?

Yes, I will efinitely come back to China after grauation in orer to achieve my goals.

In comparison, hospitality inustry an eucation are highly evelope in the US, there is no shortage of talente people, the competition there is higher, so this will be ifficult for me to reach my goals.
In aition, China is very short of talente people in star hotels, especially those with goo foreign language skills an foreign eucational backgrouns. I can speak 2 foreign languages, so with the avance eucation in the US an my knowlege about Chinese cultures, I will gain the upper han in the Chinese hotel market.
Consiere all the reasons I have mentione, I will come back to China.

10. You have too little working experience, you may not unerstan your future clearly. I think you shoul stay in China to collect more working experiences before pursuing a Master’s Degree abroa?

Well, even though working experiences are important in this fiel, my unergrauate backgroun makes it har for me to fin a relevant job in a hotel. However, if I go to the US to stuy Hospitality Management, I will be qualifie to get a goo job in the hotel market. This is the fastest way to reach my goals. Moreover, I have receive the amission letter from FIU, I really cherish this opportunity to stuy there, so I hope I can get your support.

11. Can you explain why 90% stuents in’t come back?

14. Why on’t you want to stuy in other countries?

As far as I know, many European countries like UK an Switzerlan have a short perio of eucation for Master’s Degree, one year or one year an a half at most. This kin of eucational system is not very goo for me to igest the knowlege, consiere that I have no eucational backgroun in Hospitality Management before.
Moreover, they are smaller countries compare to the US, so their markets are smaller. There won’t be many internship opportunities for me.

Compare to Chinese hotels, American hotels may pay more salaries to their staff. However, that’s not my final goal, my final goal is to set up my own hotel an be my own boss, this will get much more benefits than working for others in a hotel.
In orer to set up my own hotel, I must start off by working in China, so I can enlarge my social network here. Yes I applie for them all by myself.

I i apply for scholarship but I on’t know the result yet. Since my avisor tol me scholarships will not be processe until after the start of the semester. But even if I in’t get the scholarship, my parents have prepare enough money for my stuies in America.

24. Will you continue your stuy in America after you grauate?

I on’t think so. After I grauate, I want to go back to China an fin a job to accumulate as much working experience as I can. Hospitality Management emphasizes more on practical experience than on theories. So when I get the master’s egree, I woul like to start my work as soon as possible.
If I nee to further my stuy later in my work, I will consier.

Specifically speaking, I will start off by preparing sufficient capital, social network an China’s hotel market information by working in China’s hotel inustry for 3 or 4 years. When I have improve my ability an gathere enough experiences in this area, I will be able to set up my own hotel. My hotel will apply the avance Western technology an patterns I have learne in the US into China’s special conitions, making it suitable for China’s market. An as my hotel bran is becoming mature, I will expan my business to the other parts of China. (Why in Hainan?)
