Please Keep This In Min
Almost every ifficulty our stuents face in homestay is connecte with poor communication. It’s not surprising—in your first weeks in Canaa, you may have a har time making your hosts unerstan what you nee an how you feel—an your hosts may have a har time making you unerstan them. This is totally natural an to be expecte.
·
Sometimes the ifficulty communicating can result in either the stuent or the host seeming rue or insensitive—or both. Sometimes we can all just become frustrate an unhappy. But we’re here to help. We know it can be har at the beginning, but YOU ARE NOT ALONE! We’ve helpe lots of stuents like you get through the first, har, ays an weeks.
We know that the harest thing for you to o is complain. We know that lots of orinary things about your homestay may make feel strange at first, an we know that you won’t want to seem ungrateful or unhappy. But it’s okay to ask for help. Please on’t say things are “fine” if they aren’t. (But on’t make insults, either!) Please be patient an try to be as specific about your nees an feelings as possible. Ask specific questions, whether you’re concerne about launry or inner.
It’s okay to nee some quiet time to yourself—but sometimes the best way to grow more comfortable at home is to keep busy an involve, to meet people, an most of all to talk—your hosts have welcome you into their home because they want to know about you. If you’re feeling overwhelme (or even a little homesick), then why not practice your English by telling your host family all about life at your home!
Every host is ifferent—just like every stuent.
What our hosts have in common is that they want to provie a safe, caring environment for you. We choose hosts who will provie the same comfortable, healthy an supportive home life they woul ask a host family to provie for their own chilren.
Why o we trust our hosts?
Because we’ve met them in person an toure their homes; we’ve talke with them about their experiences in the worl an in Canaa, an we’ve helpe them ajust to being hosts. We have also aske stuents like you to evaluate them. If they fail to meet our—an your—expectations, we won’t work with them again.
If you’re not happy with your match, tell us. You can call or email us. You can also speak with your homestay relationship coorinator when he or she visits your school. We are always gla to hear from you.
