If you have selecte accommoations through TVDSB with Canaa Homestay Network, the following information will be very helpful. If you have mae alternate arrangements for accommoations, you may still fin some of this information helpful for living in a Canaian home.

But staying with a new family is going to be a big change for you. Your family will be speaking English at home an they will have ifferent rules from what you are use to. An the foo will be ifferent, maybe very ifferent!

It is therefore very important that you have REALISTIC EXPECTATIONS of what it will be like. By this we mean, that we want what you expect to happen to be the same as what actually will happen.

When you o go out, please let your homestay family know where you will be going, how you can be reache, when you will be home (remember your curfew!) an who you will be with.

Your host family will give you a curfew. Curfew means when you have to be home at night. The time will epen on your age an will be ifferent on week/school ays (earlier) an weekens (later).

This information is important for your safety an your host ’ s peace of min. Remember, your homestay family is responsible for you. Please o not assume your homestay family knows where you are, or remembers plans you have iscusse in avance.

Please let your host family know if you are going to be late - particularly aroun meal times. A quick text will solve many potential problems.

Curfew

Host families an international stuents nee to iscuss school ay an weeken curfews. Stuents are expecte to respect the routines an rules of the househol.

You must phone your host if you are elaye past your curfew, or require help, at any time. If you o not follow these guielines you coul be aske to leave the program.

Visitors

The homestay program oes not encourage overnight visitors or visits. If you wish to have a guest, you must ask for permission from your host.

Stuents in the homestay program are only allowe to stay overnight at the homes of other stuents if they have the permission of their host family, an the two families have been in touch with each other.

In cases when your homestay host is away an nees to make alternate sleeping arrangements for you, the host must inform the Homestay Manager of where you will be staying with the family’s name, aress an phone number.

You are not permitte to bring guests into the homestay if the homestay family is not at home (unless you have prior permission). The opposite gener shall not visit private areas/berooms.

Sometimes the ifficulty communicating can result in either the stuent or the host seeming rue or insensitive—or both. Sometimes we can all just become frustrate an unhappy. But we’re here to help.
