This email is to upate you with information about the options that ANU is planning to put in place for stuents affecte by the novel coronavirus relate travel restrictions.
Semester 1 to commence 24 February 2020 as planne
We will be beginning Semester 1 on 24 February as planne. Our campus is safe an reay for the start of the acaemic year. For all our omestic an international stuents who are in Australia an able to atten classes we are looking forwar to starting Orientation from Monay 17 February an the start of Semester 1 from Monay 24 February.
I want to reassure you all that your safety is our highest priority. We are actively working with health authorities an have consistently followe their avice to keep our community safe. That means anyboy who nees to be isolate is in isolation. An anyone you see on campus has alreay met all the necessary health requirements.
As a University, we are etermine to respon with compassion an come together to support each other. I am equally etermine that any anxiety relate to coronavirus oes not give rise to any form of marginalisation, iscomfort or iscrimination against any iniviual or groups within our community. As our Vice-Chancellor has sai before, viruses on’t iscriminate an neither o we.
For stuents impacte by travel restrictions – see below For those of you affecte by the travel restrictions, we are making every effort to put in place very flexible arrangements for you so that you can participate in campus life an learn remotely until you can join us. The information below is for you.
Flexible stuy
If you are not able to travel to Canberra to join us on campus for Semester 1 2020 by the 31 st March, you will have several options incluing:
Continuing to stuy with ANU: We really want to see you continue or commence your stuies at ANU. We are working on you being able to enrol part-time or full-time an participate remotely in a range of courses relevant to your egree. We’re currently selecting an preparing the most suitable courses so that you can stuy remotely an integrate back into campus-base learning if you arrive in Canberra prior to the en of semester. We will provie you with information about these courses next Wenesay.
Stuying at another institution: You may be able to enrol in online or face to face stuy at another University either in Australia or in China an creit that course back to your stuies here at ANU.
Deferring: You will be able to efer your stuies for up to one year without acaemic or financial penalty. We will welcome you to campus when you’re reay to commence or return.
Enrolling in a free, co-curricular offering from ANU : We are planning to provie to all ANU stuents who are affecte by the travel restrictions the opportunity to participate in a co-curricular program that you can participate in from China. The program is esigne to support acaemic writing evelopment an inclues content on life in Australia an wellbeing while stuying.
Catching up : We will have a number of options such as winter an summer intensive courses that will enable you to catch up when you get back to campus.
Flexible Enrolment
To provie flexibility an support for stuents who will be stuying remotely in Semester 1 2020, the following flexible enrolment arrangements will be available:
We encourage you to select an enrol in the courses that you want to stuy remotely in Semester 1 2020 when we provie you with information next week about the recommene courses.
You will be able to withraw from any course that you are enrolle in uring Semester 1 2020 until the ay before the final assessment without acaemic penalty.
When you arrive in Canberra, we will work with you iniviually to ensure you are supporte to integrate back into your stuies on campus for the courses you are enrolle in. We encourage you to come to Australia as soon as you are able.
Flexible Scholarships an Dispensation
In response to the travel restrictions, ANU can offer a scholarship or special ispensation to affecte stuents to be compensate for some of the challenges that they have enure.
Commencing Stuent Harship Scholarship: If you are a commencing stuent, we recognise that you will be heavily impacte by the travel restrictions because you are not yet familiar with ANU. If you are a commencing stuent affecte by the travel restrictions, an not able to arrive in Australia an atten classes by 31 March 2020, you will receive a harship scholarship an we will waive your fees for any remote stuy you enrol in uring Semester 1.
Special Dispensation for Affecte Continuing Stuents: If you are a continuing stuent affecte by the coronavirus travel restrictions, an not able to arrive in Australia an atten classes by 31 March 2020, you will receive special ispensation if you fail any course you are enrolle in for Semester 1. This means when you enrol in the same course again, your course fees will be waive.
