Course Description

The Master of Music (Opera Performance) is a professional training program offering elite-level training for opera singers an repetiteurs.

This course is all about learning the craft of being an opera singer – oing, reflecting, an enacting a wie range of skills in a variety of repertoires. The two-year program inclues intensive stuies in vocal coaching, lyric iction for Italian, French an German language for opera, ensemble singing, role evelopment, acting an music performance research. Stuents will have the opportunity to prepare specific roles an be actively engage in performance opportunities – both in house an through inustry placements with professional opera companies, in Australia an internationally.

Pathways to research master egrees are also available upon completion of the program.

Repetiteurs will have achieve the keyboar an vocal coaching skills require of a professional repetiteur from the rehearsal stage through to full-scale operatic performance.

Auition ates

Interviews will be hel in Melbourne: Thursay 19 September an Friay 20 September, plus an early October ate.

Auition requirements

Unertaking a 20-minute auition is a requirement for all applicants. A brief interview will be incorporate into the auition process an hel at the Faculty of Fine Arts an Music in Southbank Melbourne. Contact fineartsmusic-amissions@unimelb.eu.au for more information.

For Singers

Applicants shoul prepare an auition program of 5 works, incluing three arias an two songs.

One of the arias must be in Italian an one of the songs must be in English.

The auition panel will hear a selection of the prepare repertoire.

An accompanist will be provie – applicants o not nee to bring their own accompanist.

For Repetiteurs

Applicants shoul prepare an auition program of one solo piano piece or movement of a work (own choice) an the following operatic excerpts:

Mozart - The Marriage of Figaro, Act 2 Finale (No. 16). Bärenreiter, pages 199 - 308 (in Italian)

Puccini - La Bohème, opening to “Non sono in vena”. Schirmer, pages 1 - 58 (in Italian)

The caniate shoul be prepare to be conucte as they play an to sing any of the vocal lines in Italian (Mozart) an French (Bizet) while playing the score. The auition panel will hear a selection of the prepare repertoire.

Can't atten the auition?

Applicants have the option to submit a recore auition although live auitions are encourage an preferre. There may be an options of an aitional auition in October to be confirme later in the year.

Recorings must be mae in one take, must be uneite an submitte in electronic format via the Auition Application Form in SlieRoom.

Recore auitions must be submitte no later than the first live auition ate. You must inicate by the application close ate if you are attening live or nee to uploa a recoring via the SlieRoom form. You will be emaile about this process separately after the application close ate.

Recorings once submitte are the property of the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music.
