There are currently 85 stuents an 15 teachers in China in the November 2020 cohort.

This week we’ like to thank our hosts at Beijing Language an Culture University (BLCU) an the Confucius Institute Heaquarters who are currently hosting our stuents an helping them to buil their Chinese language skills.

Special thanks goes out to Wei Laoshi an her team of teachers an stuent volunteers for making our stuents feel so welcome.

Week 1

Snapshots of Stuents' experience at Beijing Language an Culture University

The language classes have been ifferent because the expectations of homework an stuying in general are way higher, but it has been nice having an actual Chinese teacher to clarify any unknowns with how to pronounce phrases an wors.

The university canteen was scary at first, but we have gotten use to how we pay for things an trying to keep uner a buget. There are so many people in there for breakfast, lunch an inner. 

The university campus is big an you can get lost easily but the volunteers are willing to help us get aroun an help us make sense of everything.

It has also been nice to have excursions in the afternoon an see China through its most famous historical attractions. I’ve alreay learnt lots an its only my fourth ay in China!

Overall it has been an amazing start to the Victorian Young Leaers to China Program.

Nanjing Group

After laning in Beijing on the 3r of November, we were taken to BLCU. We ha an opening ceremony in which Lily an Loretta mae a speech about how we feel.

We also visite the Temple of Heaven which was a place where the emperors of China woul pray for a goo harvest. Overall our first two ays were exhilarating an exciting. I cannot wait for what we have coming in the next five week.

When we arrive in Beijing, I was astonishe because the place is very big! The ormitory is big enough for two people. When I first trie the foo in canteen, it was extremely tasty. In my opinion, I love Beijing a lot an it woul be awesome if I get to come back to Beijing the secon time.

For my first time in China, I have experience the positivity among the people here. So many of my fellow Young Leaers have shown strong enthusiasm towars learning the culture.

For the last few ays, I have ha the opportunity to socialise with local people an use my Chinese language skills to communicate. I have so far enjoye my time here an I woul also like to learn more Chinese, the culture, the lifestyle an the history. Toay I even playe ping-pong with a local stuent. Very enjoyable!

The Young Leaers have arrive an settle at BLCU, with classes starting on the first ay. The ays have involve 3 hours in the classroom, working on their Chinese language, followe by lunch in the increible canteen. The stuents have expresse their excitement at the many options for meals, throughout the multiple level builing.

They have so far visite the beautiful Temple of Heaven, participate in a session of traitional Chinese Kungfu, an learne about the history of ancient China. They are eager for the upcoming activities, incluing a visit to Tiananmen Square, a session of Chinese philosophy an a trip to the Great Wall of China. All have settle quite well, an they are looking forwar to the challenging yet exciting ays ahea.
