The Faculty of Business and Economics admits applicants to the full-time PhD programme only. Candidates without a research Master's degree shall be considered for admission to the four-year PhD programme, while those with a research Master's degree shall be considered for admission to the three-year PhD programme.
An applicant for admission to PhD programmes should have a bachelor's degree with first class honours (or equivalent qualification) from a recognized university; or a Bachelor's degree with honours and a Master's degree (or equivalent qualification) from a recognized university.
An applicant must demonstrate his/her capability for graduate studies by obtaining a satisfactory score in the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) within a five-year period.
English Language Requirement
Applicants whose degree or equivalent qualification was awarded by an institution outside Hong Kong where the medium of instruction was not English will also have to meet one of the following English requirements.
· Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOFEL): minimum score of 80 (internet-based) or 550 (paper-based) taken within a two-year period; or
· International English Language Testing Service (IELTS): minimum overall band score of 6 with no component score lower than 5.5 taken within a two-year period
The application for admission in 2019/20 is now OPEN. The Main Roundapplication deadline is December 1, 2018. The Faculty will consider applications submitted in the Main Round only. Applications received in the First and Second Clearing Round will not normally be considered.

Applicants who are interested in applying for the PhD Programme in the Faculty of Business and Economics are advised to review the information available on this website concerning the programme and the respective fields of study. It is not a must for applicants to contact potential supervisors to discuss their proposed research areas at the application stage. All applications will be considered by the Faculty and a successful applicant will be assigned the most suitable supervisor(s) who has/have expertise in the applicant's research area.

Qualifying examinations to test the applicants’ abilities to follow the prescribed courses and/or interviews may be conducted.
Tuition Fees and Financial Assistance
For the academic year 2018-19, the tuition fee for full-time PhD programme is HK$42,100 p.a.
FBE PhD Entrance Scholarship
The FBE PhD Entrance Scholarship shall be awarded to new students admitted to the full-time PhD programme in the Faculty of Business and Economics on the basis of academic merit at the time of admission. The number of scholarships to be awarded shall be determined each year. The Scholarship shall be of the value of HK$42,100 for the academic year 2018-2019.
All eligible candidates will automatically be considered and no application for the Scholarship is required. In the event of there being no suitable candidate in any year, no awards shall be made.
For admission to the DBA, applicants are expected to possess:
· a master's degree in a business related discipline from a recognised university in good standing or the equivalent and
· a substantial amount of professional work experience* of which some is at a senior level
In exceptional circumstances, candidates with professional qualifications or other scholarly achievements plus substantial senior managerial experience, may be considered. Applicants holding a relevant Bachelor's degree with first class honours or the equivalent from a recognised university, and the requisite work experience at a senior level, will also be considered.
* Typical applicants will have over 10 years of work experience, although outstanding applicants with less work experience are also welcome.
ENGLISH PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENT
Applicants who gained their degrees from universities in which English was not the language of instruction must have a minimum TOEFL score of 580 (paper-based) or 237 (computer-based) or 92 (internet-based), or an equivalent test score.

An MBA or a master’s degree in business-related subjects from a recognised university or equivalent; and
b. Substantial years (normally 10 years or above) of managerial or professional experience at an appropriate level.
Language Proficiency Requirement
Proficiency in English language (such as completion of a degree programme taught in English); or
TOEFL score of 550 or above for the paper-based test, 79 or above for the internet-based test; or
IELTS score of 6.5 or above; or
Equivalent score on a comparable test.
Applicants must submit:
A statement of purpose of 2000 – 3000 words, stating the interested area of research, as part of the selection process.
Contact information of two referees who are in the position to give comment on the applicant’s professional work and suitability for the programme.
