　　课程设置：

　　TheassessmentfortheAstronomyMPhilegreeisexclusivelybyresearchanaprojectansupervisormusthavebeenientifiepriortoaformalapplicationbeingmaebythestuent.Thereisnotaughtelement.TheegreeisnotsuitableforphysicistsanmathematicianswishingtoprepareforaresearchPhDinAstrophysicsanthenumberofstuentsamitteissmall.Many,butnotallofourpreviousstuentshacompleteanunergrauateegreeinNorthAmericaanreturnetheretounertakeaPhDaftercompletingtheMPhilinCambrige.

　　Historically,mostMPhilstuentshavesecurefuningfortheirMPhilstuiesthroughapplicationstoscholarshipprogrammessuchasChurchill,GatesanMarshall.

　　Theaimsoftheprogrammeare:

　　togivestuentswithrelevantexperienceatfirst-egreeleveltheopportunitytocarryoutfocusseresearchintheisciplineunerclosesupervision;an

　　togivestuentstheopportunitytoacquireorevelopskillsanexpertiserelevanttotheirresearchinterests.

　　LearningOutcomes

　　Bytheenoftheprogramme,stuentswillhave:

　　acomprehensiveunerstaningoftechniques,anathoroughknowlegeoftheliterature,applicabletotheirownresearch;

　　emonstrateoriginalityintheapplicationofknowlege,togetherwithapracticalunerstaningofhowresearchanenquiryareusetocreateaninterpretknowlegeintheirfiel;

　　shownabilitiesinthecriticalevaluationofcurrentresearchanresearchtechniquesanmethoologies;

　　emonstratesomeself-irectionanoriginalityintacklingansolvingproblems,anacteautonomouslyintheplanninganimplementationofresearch.
